Das Zimmer
Unsere WG-Sprache ist Englisch, deshalb ist das Inserat auf Englisch. Deutschkenntnisse sind willkommen, aber keine Voraussetzung.
The largest bedroom in the flat, at least 20 m², and the only room on the flat's upper level. Nobody else uses that floor, so in practice it functions as a private half-storey rather than a room off a corridor. There is currently a spare bed up there for guests, which stays if you want it. Light comes from a single roof window, so it is darker than the square metres suggest. With decent lamps this is a non-issue for sleeping and evenings; if you plan to work from that room all day, factor it in.
The flat itself is on the third floor with a lift. Spacious living room, a fireplace, and a balcony with a faint view of the Alps.
Bus stops for lines 46 and 89 are a short walk away. ETH Hönggerberg is around 15 minutes by bike or bus, Zurich main station 20 minutes by bus.

Wir suchen
Someone both assertive and easygoing, which is how I would describe myself. Have people over, make a mess, just deal with it afterwards. I will wash someone else's pan if they forgot, and I expect the same in return. That is how we avoid falling prey to the tragedy of the commons.
We are looking for someone equally engaged in whatever they are doing. Character over credentials. If you like things unconventional and can geek out about your thing, even if it is completely alien to us, we will get along.
Origin and profession genuinely do not matter, and a university background is not expected either. Life stage does matter a bit. We are all in our 30s and would like to keep the flat roughly in that range, so if you are in the middle of a Bachelor's or Master's on the standard track, this is probably not the right place. Someone finishing a doctorate, changing direction later, or starting a degree at 30 is another matter entirely.
I hold the main lease, so I need someone reliable with rent and considerate with a shared front door. We are also looking for someone who wants to actually live here rather than pass through, ideally for at least 6 months.

Wir sind
We are three guys in our 30s in a 4.5-room flat, one of whom is moving out, hence the room.
Mateo is a tattoo artist from Uruguay, with a punk- and goth-leaning aesthetic that sits nicely against a calm, caring and reliable character. I'm Dutch, did a PhD in synthetic and systems biology, which is what brought me to Zurich in the first place, and then drifted into software engineering. I cook, ski, spend time outdoors, read philosophy, and have a pronounced preference for wines that are not from the obvious places. Mateo barely drinks, which is the correct counterweight. Between us we have somehow ended up with more fridge capacity for drinks than for food, which tells you roughly where the priorities lie.
English has always been the house language. Over the years the flat has housed people from Lithuania, Serbia, Germany, Spain, Italy, India, Venezuela, Uruguay, Argentina and Ecuador, so the working assumption here is that everyone is from somewhere else and that this is unremarkable.
Guests are welcome. Shared meals happen when they happen rather than on a schedule. Nobody keeps a rota or a ledger.
